MANAGING DIRECTOR

Paul is responsible for Strategic direction, governance, financial performance, leadership, risk management, culture and reputation of Base Civil. He provides general oversight and guidance to all company operations and outputs ensuring they are completed to the expected standard. He ensures purchasing of company assets keeps Base Civil at the leading edge of civil construction. His skillset includes:

• Innovative solutions to provide best value.

Adam Cathcart, Operations Manager
ADAM CATHCART
OPERATIONS MANAGER

Adam provides strong on-site leadership, and is responsible for performance, discipline and morale. He ensures all construction activity complies with relevant NZ Standards.

He has substantial project management expertise demonstrated on a range of civil projects, the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with subcontractors and clients, and a collaborative approach to program and resource management.

Marc Randall, Construction Manager
MARC RANDALL
CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

Marc is responsible for day-to-day field delivery. He supervises site staff, and provides training and coaching. He mentors forepersons, field staff and project managers.

 

Marc had previously managed his own contracting company, giving him a sound understanding of the commercial realities of construction projects. He has been driving and operating excavators, dozers, rollers and trucks for the past 15 years. He can carry out all types of works to a very high level.

Greg Van den Heuvel, Estimator
GREG VAN DEN HEUVEL
ESTIMATOR

Greg brings commercial oversight to civil infrastructure projects through his expertise in pricing, budgeting, contract negotiation and risk analysis. His role involves delivering competitive, compliant tender submissions, accurate estimates and detailed cost reports.

Greg has been with us since 2021. He was previously Estimator for Dempsey Wood Civil. A clear communicator, Greg is able to build strong relationships with clients, project teams, and subcontractor and supplier networks

Julien Joannis, Project Manager Construction
JULIAN JOANNIS
PROJECT MANAGER CONSTRUCTION

Julien’s primary role is to ensure delivery of high-quality work on time and within budget. He oversees daily site operations to ensure safety protocols are followed.

Julien has over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, both here and overseas. He works in collaboration with sub-contractors, engineers and clients, manages technical documentation analysis and supervises training and support for junior team members.

Sophie Bowe, Project Manager Surfacing
SOPHIE BOWE
PROJECT MANAGER SURFACING

Sophie is the principal client contact for surfacing projects. She is responsible for overall administration and management of surfacing contract works, leading project teams. Sophie also prices asphalt and chipseal works, managing this project component from tender through to completion.

Sophie has over five years project management experience. She previously worked for Hamilton Asphalts as their asphalt and chipseal manager. Sophie is a great communicator with strong onsite leadership skills and a collaborative approach.

Suraj Shah, Project Engineer Survey
SURAJ SHAH
PROJECT ENGINEER SURVEY

Suraj is responsible for site setout, the process of transferring construction plans onto the physical ground, ensuring construction follows intended design. Suraj also oversees quality assurance testing to verify construction and materials used meet the required quality standards, as well as inspecting workmanship. 

 

Suraj is a highly experienced civil engineer and project manager who has spent over 15 years delivering civil infrastructure projects across New Zealand and Nepal, including roading, stormwater and slope stabilisation works.

Karen Cressy, Compliance Manager
KAREN CRESSY
COMPLIANCE MANAGER

Karen is our health, safety and environmental management lead. Her role includes systems establishment, compliance monitoring, auditing and accident investigation and reporting.

Karen has substantial experience in ISO systems management, ICAM investigation, reporting on QSE statistics, outcomes and improvements, and training and inducting staff. Before joining us, Karen was Health and Safety Advisor for Hamilton City Council. This role covered all aspects of health and safety legislation, including site specific safety plans (SSSPs), and workplace safety inspections audits.

Louisa Botha, Finance and Systems Manager
LOUISA BOTHA
FINANCE + SYSTEMS MANAGER

Louisa oversees all accounting functions, including the preparation of monthly accounts, reporting, payments, and payroll. She also maintains, develops, and improves our systems to ensure information flows smoothly throughout the organisation.

Her detailed approach provides a secure framework for our business insight and understanding, ensuring we have accurate and timely information to support informed decision-making.

Larissa Tasker, Administration
LARISSA TASKER
ADMINISTRATION

Larissa is our friendly face that you'll see on arrival at the Base Civil office. A natural people person, Larissa also has an exceptional eye for detail.She ensures all information in our accounting and job costing systems is current and accurate, so we can provide fully updated information and costs to our clients.

 

Priority tasks are timesheets and accounts payable, but also helping with a range of other tasks around the office space to keep the place running smoothly.

Greg Persten, Workshop Manager
GREG PERSTEN
WORKSHOP MANAGER

Greg has many years experience across a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment. He ensures our planned servicing schedule is maintained, that all vehicles and machinery have current WOFs or COFs, and that our fleet is kept operational and in excellent working order.
