Construction Surfacing

Council motorways to residential upgrades

Projects include major roading infrastructure, commercial carparks, footpaths and residential driveways, in either asphalt or chip seal surfacing.
Upon consultation, considering your specific requirements and outcomes, we work with you to determine the most favourable surfacing solution to achieve the desired life expectancy and meet your budget.

Construction surfaces

chipsealingwebsized

Chip sealing

A durable and cost-effective option, the most common surface on rural New Zealand roads, it is ideal for roads, subdivisions, farm and park driveways and carparks without excessive vehicle turning movements.

Asphalt

One of the most popular but more costly types of construction surface. Asphalt is the smooth surface used in busy central city streets, suburban roadways, carparks and upmarket subdivisions. It is much tidier and harder wearing than chip seal and certainly more attractive.

Specialty bitumen mixes

Additives can be blended to enhance the strength and durability and resistance of chip seal or asphalt products. These can be discussed and adapted to the situation and your required outcomes.

Concrete

Concrete is more long-lasting and significantly stronger than asphalt but is more expensive to lay and maintain.

The foundation will determine the finish

Using the very latest 3D GPS equipment and software, we download design surfaces directly into our excavators and graders to accurately cut and grade to a finished level (within 1 to 2mm) or a certain offset above or below the finished level.

Areas are cut accurately to a certain offset below final design level, rolled and then prepared using a provided or designed pavement depth, based on our knowledge and experience and proven design methods.  Various aggregates are then placed and compacted in appropriate layers and trimmed to give a quality mosaic surface before the chosen surface is applied.

Preventative maintenance

The maintenance of roads and car parks requires a sound understanding of drainage, pavement performance, and the life expectancy of various types of surfacing. Base Civil drafts preventative maintenance schedules and will carry out scheduled work to ensure your assets are kept in good working order. This eliminates unexpected repair costs and associated budget blowouts in the future.

Base Civil provides a free initial consultation to assist you with future planning and budget allocation.
